CONFERENCE OF EXPERT / JUDGES ON THE DRAFT PROTOCOL
RELATING TO THE COURT OF JUSTICE OF THE
AFRICAN UNION
Upon the invitation of the commission of the african union through the
foreign Ministry an Expert Judges meeting was convened during the period
between 22 – 24 April 2003 in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia to discuss the
protocol of the constituent statute of the African Court of Justic , its
compsition and functions. The protocol consists of 64 Articles divided
into twelve chapters.sudan was represented in this meeting by two judges
, justice Mohammed Hamad Abu Sin , Deputy Chief Justice and Benjamin
Baak Deng , Judge of the Supereme Court.

There was a huge attendance at the meeting .fourty eight out of
the fifty three member states of the african union who attended
where either permanent Ambassadors at the Union
Headquaresters or delegates to it . Senior African Judges also attended
including jude kroma , the African member to the International Court of
Justice .


The discussion was thorough and detailed and for this reason , the
period specified turned out for the delegates to discuss all the
Articles of the protocol . The members discussed only the first twenty
Articles . Thus it became necessary to convene anotheer session to
complete the discussion of the remaining Articules and adopt the final
recommendations regarding the protocol before its presentation to the
Gouncil of the African Minsters of Justic , which will take place
in june this year in Mauritious.
